The Carolina Panthers came away with a major upset win over the Los Angeles Rams. The Panthers' win improved their record to 7-6, keeping them within reach of the NFC South title as they are behind the 7-5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Quarterback Bryce Young played a major role in the Panthers' getting the victory on Sunday. Young completed 15 of 20 passes for 206 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
The former number one overall pick has shown flashes of living up to the expectations out of the draft. However, he has been inconsistent all season long.
Young had the best game of his career two weeks ago against the Atlanta Falcons, completing 68.9 percent of his passes for 448 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
He followed it up with a subpar performance against the San Francisco 49ers, completing 62.1 percent of his passes for 169 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions.
The ups and downs for Young have been frustrating, but he is having the best overall season of his career.
On the season, he has completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 2,337 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Young has added 121 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The weapons that the Panthers have added in recent years have helped Young improve as a passer. Rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan is having an impressive rookie campaign.
McMillan has hauled in 57 receptions for 826 yards and six touchdowns. The eighth overall pick has established himself as the top weapon in Carolina's offense.
Wide receiver Jalen Coker has also made an impact for the Panthers' passing attack. In the win over the Rams, Coker had four receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.
The rushing attack has also sparked the offense with the duo of Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle. Dowdle is having a breakout campaign, as he's rushed for 929 yards and five touchdowns along with 29 receptions for 254 yards and a touchdown.
If Young can play at a high level down the stretch, Carolina could win the division and make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
