Carolina could look to add more to the offense to help Bryce Young out.
The Carolina Panthers have started the new NFL season off on a strong note, going 3-2 to open the year.
Carolina has looked much better this year than they did a year ago, even with the team making the playoffs. Much of this has been due to the play from starting quarterback Bryce Young, and the jump that he's made on the field.
Entering the year, there were real questions around Young, mainly about whether he could be the franchise player for this team. But the signal-caller has answered the bell, putting his name in the MVP conversation.
So far, Young has thrown for 1,549 yards with 11 touchdowns and two interceptions for the Panthers this year. His performance has allowed this team to play more freely, and Carolina could get back to the playoffs because of it.
But as the NFL trade deadline approaches, Carolina could look to bring in more help to bolster their offense. The Panthers are missing a consistent tight end for Young, and this is an area that they could target.
One name that could fit the mold for the Panthers is veteran Dallas Goedert of the Philadelphia Eagles. Goedert has seen his name be mentioned in trade talks recently, with the Eagles in a free fall this season.
NFL analyst Matt Verderame of SI mentioned Carolina as a possible landing spot for the veteran tight end if the Eagles were to trade him. Goedert could provide the Panthers with another pass-catcher for Young, while offering him a strong security blanket type of player.
So far this year, Goedert has caught 17 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles. The veteran has missed some time due to injury, but he was able to return a few weeks ago to the lineup.
Goedert could provide the Panthers with a more explosive attack, forcing defenses to not double-team the strong wideouts on the roster. Having an experienced player like this could unlock even more of this passing game, and he could play a massive role come playoff time.
Due to Goedert's age and injury history, the Eagles may not move him for much, and the Panthers could land his services at a low price. The Panthers may be willing to part with some future draft capital to give themselves a better chance to win this season.
Goedert seems like he could be a low-risk, potentially high-reward move for the Panthers to consider if he were to be available. Carolina owes it to themselves to add more pieces at the trade deadline, taking full advantage of the season that Young has been putting together this year.
