The Carolina Panthers will open up training camp next week as they prepare for the extra preseason game. Carolina is one of the teams that was selected to participate in the preseason game, giving them four on the year instead of three. 

For Carolina, they are coming off a 2025 season in which they went 8-9 overall and earned a division title due to some tiebreakers. Now, the focus for Dave Canales' team is to improve here in 2026. 

They made some key additions in free agency, adding to the defense as well as a few players on offense. If they want to take a step forward, it likely will be on the shoulders of the offense, led by Bryce Young. 

But as training camp looms, one NFL writer has a trade idea that could help the Panthers in the future. 

On Tuesday, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report wrote on one trade every NFL team should make before the start of the 2026 season. For the Panthers, he has them moving on from wide receiver Xavier Legette. 

Moton suggests that the Panthers trade Legette to the Miami Dolphins for a mid-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft:

Based on overall career production, the Dolphins have the worst wide receiver corps. If they want to see quarterback Malik Willis make strides as a first-time, full-time starter, the club should look to bolster its pass-catching group. Miami could inquire about Legette, who may need a change of scenery.

Through two seasons, Legette has caught 84 passes for 860 yards and seven touchdowns in 31 contests. As a former first-round pick, he's underwhelmed, but a new opportunity to be the No. 1 wideout in Miami could lead to increased production.

There's been rumors of the Panthers potentially moving on from Legette after he's struggled in his career so far. But is am mid-round pick in 2027 worth it? 

For Miami, they would be inclined to take a chance on a wide receiver, trying to give Malik Willis some help in the first year of his time in Miami.
