The Philadelphia Eagles released some very important injury news ahead of Week 6 vs. the Carolina Panthers.
The Carolina Panthers are fresh out of their bye week with a 2-2 record and sitting in first place in the NFC South. The last time we saw Carolina on the field, they took down the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football.
That game made a statement in a way, showcasing the Panthers' offense which has been among the best in the league. As we get set to come out of the bye week, the Panthers are heading to Philadelphia for a showdown with the 2-3 Eagles. This is an Eagles team that is really struggling lately and is fresh off a loss in London to Jacksonville.
But the news got worse for the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out in Week 6 vs. the Panthers as he's been diagnosed with a blood clot. The Eagles released a statement on Thursday, stating that Hurts requested treatment on his calf after practice on October 8th. He was cleated in the leg in the Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams and while he wasn't on the injury report going into last week, he needed treatment and then popped up on the report for Friday.
From there, an ultrasound was performed on Saturday following the team’s flight to London and walkthrough. The ultrasound revealed a superficial blood clot. While Hurts was cleared to play, doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound 72 hours later. That happened on Wednesday night and it revealed a small blood clot.
That has caused Hurts to miss the game on Sunday.
With Hurts out, the Eagles will now turn to Tanner McKee to start the game. McKee has played six career games in the NFL since being drafted in 2023, throwing for 597 yards, five touchdowns and just one interception. He's completed 61.4 percent of his attempts and has a record of 1-1 in two starts. The Eagles also recently moved on from former Panthers' quarterback Andy Dalton, releasing him after acquiring him via trade.
Even with Hurts out, Carolina will still need to be careful in terms of this game. They can't go into it believing it's going to be easier just because Hurts is out.
The chance to be 3-2 and hold first place in the NFC South is on the line, as is a potential tiebreaker in playoff seeding.
Philadelphia and Carolina will kickoff at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Week 6.
