Where does Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young rank among quarterbacks after Week 1 in PFF's rankings?
The Carolina Panthers had a rough Week 1, falling to the Chicago Bears 59-37. While the loss was disappointing, Carolina's offense was a bright spot in the game.
It's hard to judge the performance altogether as the Bears' defense is expected to be one of the worst in the league this season. But even with that, quarterback Bryce Young had a big day, finishing with 361 passing yards and three touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown in the game.
Young looked good in his 2026 debut, a season that is expected to be an important one for the quarterback. But not everyone saw it that way.
On Wednesday, Pro Football Focus released its quarterback rankings for Week 2 based on how they performed in Week 1. Young was ranked No. 20 overall in the rankings. Here is what they had to say about his performance:
This is a big season for Bryce Young's future in Carolina, and he started it well despite the loss to the Chicago Bears. His 80.7 PFF grade ranked sixth at the position, and he also ranked in the top five in both completion percentage over expectation and accuracy over expectation.
Young was the sixth-best quarterback per the grades from PFF, putting a good performance out there. However, their ranking has him at No. 20 going into this week.
For the Panthers, they have to be happy with Young's performance. He made just one mistake which came right before halftime on a good play by Bears defensive back Malik Muhammad. Other than that, he was good and it wasn't on him in terms of why they lost.
Young playing well this season will help determine his future with the Panthers. The team picked up his fifth year option this offseason but have yet to decide on a long-term deal for him. Ideally, Carolina and Young get that deal done and he becomes the franchise quarterback. But if things go south, they are going to be in the market for a new quarterback this offseason.
Carolina travels to Atlanta to take on the Falcons in Week 2, which will be their first divisional game of the year.
