The Carolina Panthers were on a bye during Week 5 of the NFL season.
The Carolina Panthers were one of the few teams that underwent a bye week in Week 5, giving the team a chance to reset.
In the last game that the Panthers played, they took down the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football, winning an exciting contest. Carolina has spent the bye week preparing for its upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles on the road.
Due to the bye, the Panthers didn't move up in a new NFL Power Rankings from ESPN. The team came in ranked at No. 18 entering Week 5, and they now will come into the upcoming Week 6 still ranked at No. 18.
Carolina sits with a record of 2-2 on the season, with the two sides of the ball going in different directions. The Panthers' offense has been one of the best in the NFL this season, namely with the passing attack being as explosive as it has been in a long time.
Tetairoa McMillan leads the way for the Panthers at the wide receiver position, giving this team a legitimate option to use in games. The Panthers have strong wide receiving options for quarterback Bryce Young, giving the former No. 1 overall pick a lot to work with.
Young has looked much more centered this season, answering any and all questions around his game so far. The veteran quarterback came into the season with a lot of doubt about his game after an inconsistent performance a year ago.
But at least so far, Young has looked the part of a franchise quarterback, and he has the Panthers' offense flying high. Young looks much more poised and calm in the pocket, with him not allowing defenses to throw him off his rhythm.
However, on the flip side, the Panthers defense hasn't been very good, with this being a major concern for the team early on. Carolina invested a lot of money in the defense over the offseason, but the group hasn't been able to play up to par yet.
If this team can get both sides of the ball playing together, Carolina could cause some damage this season. The hope is that the bye week can help the defensive unit figure something out, giving this Panthers team a well-rounded approach on the field.
The game against the Eagles will be very telling for this group, offering them a chance to take on a team down on its luck. Kickoff between the Panthers and Eagles is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PT/1:00 p.m. ET
