The New England Patriots used the 2026 offseason to identify and acquire upgrades at key areas of need following a surprise run to Super Bowl LX last year. Now, those new additions have seen real action on the field in Foxboro, and have revealed a clearer image of what the team may look like when the cutdown to 53 takes place.

Through two-plus weeks of the intrasquad practice sessions that make up training camp, joint practices with other organizations, and preseason contests, New England’s offseason signings have endured the trials necessary for proper evaluations and difficult decisions. By August 31, the current 90-man roster will be trimmed all the way down to 53 players, leaving a collection of contributors, returning or otherwise, looking for a new home to begin the regular season.

On this episode of the Patriots Roundtable Podcast, hosts Eddie Marotta and Tyler Geis return to the cutting board with their third round of roster predictions this summer. We review how the Patriots’ 2026 roster has performed through the summer, and how early returns from the preseason may shape the decisions that lie ahead.

With a shrinking number of open spots up-for-the-taking on the initial 53-man roster to begin the fall, key battleground positions through training camp have shown promise for improved performance. Offseason acquisitions at running back, wide receiver, tight end, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, secondary, and cornerback have all made legitimate pushes to supplant incumbents at their respective positions, and spurred a higher level of internal competition than at this point in recent years.
