An Overview of the New England Patriots’ Latest Practice Squad Signings

The New England Patriots’ practice squad count is up to 16 players.

Following the signings of 12 players to the practice squad on Monday, New England added four more acquisitions into the mix in Foxboro. One familiar face returns, but unlike the earlier batch, new arrivals comprise the majority of this group — with a clear focus on adding depth to thin positions on the 53-man roster.

Here’s a closer look at the four players that signed with the Patriots’ practice squad on Tuesday:

K.J. Britt was signed by New England as an unrestricted free agent on March 12, 2026, and was in the competition for the third linebacker job throughout training camp. He made the initial 53-man roster, but was released on Monday to make space on the team for waiver claims Cameron Latu and Darius Muasau. As a vested veteran, Britt did not have to clear waivers and was able to re-sign with the practice squad quickly. With more roster movement expected in the coming days, he will be a candidate to be called-up as soon as Week 1 at the Seattle Seahawks. The reports of Britt’s demise were greatly exaggerated.

Jalen Hunt spent training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars after signing as an undrafted free agent (UDFA) on April 27, 2026. The former Michigan State Spartans’ (2020-2022) and Cincinnati Bearcats’ (2023, 2025; missed 2024 with a season-ending knee injury) defensive tackle played in 48 games collegiately and registered 47 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. In the preseason, Hunt finished with four tackles, four stops, and three pressures. 

Jake Kubas spent the past two seasons with the New York Giants after signing as a UDFA from North Dakota State following the 2024 NFL Draft. In 2024, Kubas appeared in five games with three starts — two at right guard and one at left guard — and has also seen playing time at center the last two preseasons. He spent the entire 2025 season on New York’s practice squad and was released on August 30.

Jose Ramirez spent training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles and combined with Joshua Weru for a sack on Behren Morton in Week 2 of the preseason. He was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth-round (No. 196 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft. The former Eastern Michigan Eagles’ pass-rusher has only seen regular season action four times — all in 2024 — and spent the 2025 season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. He finished the 2026 preseason with six tackles, five stops, four pressures, two quarterback hits, and a batted pass (against the Patriots).

Although their group now stands at 16 players (the league’s maximum allotted slots for the practice squad), New England still has one opening left. Offensive tackle Lorenz Metz is an International Player Pathway (IPP) program addition that does not count against the team, leaving the Patriots with one more spot to fill. Xavier Holmes is reportedly the 17th addition to the room, although the team has not made that announcement officially.
