Rather than continue trading for A.J. Brown, maybe the Patriots should draft a wide receiver in the first round next month.

The hypothetical scenarios that surround the New England Patriots in terms of the wide receiver position don't seem to be stopping anytime soon. Frankly, they may not stop until the trade deadline of next season.

With the Patriots still heavily favored to land A.J. Brown (despite other teams emerging as favorites too), they will most likely have their eyes on another wideout come draft week.

Edge rushers in the first round seem to be what the Patriots are rumored to be going for, but what if the Patriots dropped the whole idea of giving the Eagles a first-round pick this season (or next) and went after a wide receiver to develop in the first round and grow over time with Drake Maye?

Maye cannot afford to have free agents and players who were traded for come and go. Maybe it is time to invest in a WR long-term to give the 2025 MVP runner-up some stability.

According to PFF, someone could fit that mold. On Monday, Gordon McGuinness, a Pro Football Focus writer, released a mock draft that had Washington's Denzel Boston going to the Patriots at pick 31.

"The Patriots have already boosted their receiving corps with the addition of free agent Romeo Doubs, but that shouldn’t prevent them from looking at a receiver in Round 1 if the right one is available," McGuinness wrote. " Boston dropped just 3.1% of his catchable targets and caught 76.9% of his contested targets in 2025. "

If Boston were to be shipped up to...well...Boston, he arrives with an impressive college resume: four years at Washington, playing 43 games and posting 132 receptions for 1,781 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Boston could be a serviceable target for Drake Maye down the field due to his height. He stands 6 feet 4 inches tall, and based on the video above, he knows how to catch even the most difficult passes.

After signing a four-year deal to acquire Romeo Doubs from the Green Bay Packers, maybe the Patriots could be thinking about other things besides A.J. Brown, and this could very well be one of those things.
