Every Patriots fan has thought this as of late.
When the news broke that New England Patriots VP of player personnel, Eliot Wolf, would be present and accessible to the media at the NFL Scouting Combine, any reporter in the building felt their senses heighten.
Wolf spoke to reporters about the 31st overall pick the Patriots have and how they plan to use it, or maybe trade it away to make a move on a player who could be key to them.
Wolf would also take questions about Will Campbell and whether the Patriots were going to move him to guard in 2026, rather than his current position at left tackle. It was a question that stemmed from Campbell's postseason performance. Wolf would make it clear that the move was not going to happen.
Then there's the wide receiver room in Foxborough. Stefon Diggs is a name at the center of what the receiving corps will look like in 2026, even if he may not be there by preseason practices.
There is debate over whether the Patriots will move on from Diggs in the coming weeks and trade him before they have to pay him his guaranteed money. Or, keep him, maybe on a discount. It's a scenario that raises many questions (watch the Patriots Roundtable Podcast to hear more).
Wolf does know one thing, though: the team is missing an overall WR1 on the field, and he and the Patriots front office are on the move to find one, even if they were to keep Diggs.
Wolf tiptoed around the question of the team needing a top wide receiver by saying, "Yes, we are looking at the wide receiver position to try to improve depth. The more playmakers we have, the better we're going to be."
It's still just rumors right now about any offseason moves for the Patriots. Regardless, Wolf seems to share many of the same takes as we've heard over the last few weeks.
Stefon Diggs is very much the emotional leader of that locker room right now, and his contractual numbers were met last season, but he is also a vet who may have already seen the best of his years production-wise already.
There may be someone who can absolutely shine for the team in 2026. Maybe it's in the draft, or maybe it's a disgruntled player who wants out of a certain Pennsylvania-based team.
Either way, Wolf is highly aware of what needs to be done for the Patriots' receiving corps.
