FanDuel's Kay Adams thinks highly of Drake Maye, but does she think he deserves to win the MVP over Matthew Stafford?

There was a moment when the idea of Drake Maye winning the league MVP was just a fantasy for Pats fans, given how the team was clicking in October and early November.

Now, going into the final week of the regular season, that has become a reality.

A few weeks ago, the stance of many in the sports analyst world seemed to be that Drake Maye is having a remarkable sophomore season in the NFL, but Matthew Stafford is undoubtedly going to win the MVP this season.

However, in Week 17, Maye had yet another career-defining day (even though it has not been a lengthy career yet) against the New York Jets in the 42-10 late-season win.

The 2024 third overall pick went 19 of 21 for 256 yards and five touchdowns, posting a near-perfect 99.8 passer rating. The league took notice but knew that on Monday Night Football, Stafford would respond as the Rams faced the Falcons.

The Rams would lose that game. Stafford would throw 3 interceptions, including a pick-six in the Rams' 27 to 24 loss. Thus shifting the ball into Mayes' court on whether he can reach up and grab the MVP.

FanDuel's Kay Adams weighed in on the MVP discussion this week on her show Up&Adams on FanDuel TV.

"Momentum is a thing," Adams said. "Timing is a thing. Stafford had three picks last night—now, wow, Drake Maye takes over as the FanDuel MVP favorite: Maye at -475, Stafford at +320."

That was not all she had to say on the matter, though.

Adams would question the powers that be who are trying to appease the "overlords" at FanDuel Sportsbook about why Maye is so high in the odds to win the MVP.

"I think it should be a closer neck-and-neck situation, don't you?" Adams asked her audience. "One performance should not offset Stafford's body of work."

Stafford has gotten the love to take the award for some time now due to his age and accomplishments, and the NFL usually favors great players playing at an elite level in the back half of their careers.

But just like Eddie Marotta said on today's debut episode of The Patriots Roundtable Podcast, "The MVP should not be a legacy award."

We will know in just a few weeks if Maye or Stafford (or someone else) takes the crown.
