The New England Patriots face the New York Giants on Monday Night Football and one of the best players on the Giants thinks Patriots QB Drake Maye is "a little bit too poised."
New York star defender Brian Burns, who has 13.0 sacks on the season, spoke about Maye with the Giants media.
"He's talented, talented arm," Burns said about Maye. "I'm not really too sure yet about how quick he is to process everything, but I do feel like he makes the right plays at the right time. He does seem a bit poised, maybe a little bit too poised in the pocket, but just overall he's been showing his talent for sure.
"Really just getting to him, getting in his blind spots, like his backside. I feel like at times he's so caught up in making the right play or getting so caught up in his routes downfield, he just forgets about somewhat of who's rushing him, if that makes sense. What I mean about poised, it could be a bad thing, could be a good thing. But what I mean by poised is that he takes his time and he makes the right reads, he tries to make the right play. It can also bite you in the butt at a certain amount of times if you've got edge rushers coming and you're not really too cognizant of where they are."
Maye is putting up MVP numbers this season. He has 3,130 passing yards and 21 passing touchdowns.
Behind Maye, the Patriots have the top record in the NFL at 10-2. The UNC product is completing 71.0% of his passes for New England, who are Super Bowl contenders for the first time in the post-Tom Brady era.
Maye was the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He enters the Giants game with 5,406 passing yards and 36 career passing touchdowns in 25 games.
The Patriots will likely blow out the Giants on Monday Night Football. Maybe and Co. are arguably the best teams in the league, while Burns and Co. are undoubtedly one of the worst teams.
