Is a deal in place for the Patriots to acquire Crosby?

The New England Patriots are among the teams whose names have been mentioned in the Maxx Crosby sweepstakes. Will it happen, though?

Well, we will know soon enough, most likely.

Outside of A.J. Brown being traded out of Philadelphia to Foxborough, Crosby has been the other name mentioned in the same breath as someone who actually wants to come play for Mike Vrabel.

On Monday afternoon, NFL Insider Albert Breer wrote in his column that he has it on good information that the Las Vegas Raiders intend to move Crosby out of town this week. Whoever seems to have a lock on the edge rusher is making what has been billed as a Micah Parsons-type trade to solidify Crosby going forward.

“I’d lean toward a Maxx Crosby trade happening, and maybe this week,” Breer wrote in his column. "But there’s going to have to be some needle-threading. I don’t think the Raiders want to go through the song and dance of shopping him, nor do I believe Crosby wants it advertised that he’s looking for suitors, given his bond with owner Mark Davis and his view of himself as a Raider.”

Breer would go on to mention that the teams believed to be heavily involved in acquiring the 29-year-old All-Pro edge rusher are Dallas, Chicago, Baltimore, Buffalo, New England, Philadelphia, and the Los Angeles Rams.

Crosby signed a three-year extension worth $106.5 million just last season. Bringing him in will involve many variables, including draft capital, as well as moves involving pivotal players for whoever trades for him.

On the Patriots Roundtable Podcast last week, it was mentioned that a player like Christian Barmore could be included in a deal for Crosby, along with some draft capital.

Crosby's desire to join the Patriots has caught fire since Super Bowl week, when The Athletic's Dianna Russini told 98.5 The Sports Hub that Crosby said he wants to play for Mike Vrabel.

If that is the case, maybe a deal has already been done to get him there that can't be announced yet. Or maybe the Patriots stay the course and try to build at that position via the draft.
