Mike Vrabel could do something unheard of if he can lead the Patriots to a Super Bowl win.
The New England Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl after surviving the Denver Broncos in a 10-7 win in the AFC Championship.
To think that a year ago, the Cleveland Browns had Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel in the building, serving as a consultant, and at no point did they think to make better use of him.
Anyways, that was then; this is now.
In just one season with the Patriots, Vrabel has revamped the culture in the building and created a championship-caliber team that is situationally aware of what it takes to win games, especially big games, on the road in the snow.
Vrabel set out a goal to win the AFC East again, then get some playoff wins under the team's belt, and then eventually a championship. All of that seemed like something Patriots fans would witness over the span of a few years, not in one season.
With all that being said, Mike Vrabel is on the cusp of accomplishing something no coach has ever done before as he heads into Super Bowl LX.
Vrabel has won three Super Bowls as a player for the Patriots back in the early days of the dynasty. Can he do it for the exact same team as the coach?
CBS’s Jim Nantz was heard saying this potential stat as the Patriots took the field after Drake Maye's final kneel-down to proclaim victory over the Broncos in the AFC Championship.
"Mike Vrabel has the chance to do something no one has ever done before, and that's become the first person to win a Super Bowl as a player and as a coach for the same franchise," Nantz said.
Vrabel was an outside linebacker from 2001 to 2008 and was part of the Patriots' Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX victories. The three championship games that began the franchise's historic run. Now he has a chance to add to it as the team's head coach.
As a former head coach of the Tennessee Titans, Vrabel knocked on the door of the Super Bowl in early 2020 but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
He has a chance in two weeks to do something special, not just for the franchise but for NFL history.
