Examining the transactions made by the New England Patriots during the 2026 offseason before they take the field for training camp on July 25.
The last time the New England Patriots were in action, they humbly exited the playing field at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA, after dropping Super Bowl LX to the Seattle Seahawks.
In the months since, the brass in Foxboro have aggressively pursued and acquired upgrades at key positions of need across the roster, addressing warts that were revealed during the playoff run and reinforcing existing strengths. Reshuffling the deck along the offensive line, adding proven playmakers on the perimeter, and drafting to secure future sustainability, New England took steps to ensure that their success in 2025 was just the beginning of an open window for perennial contention.
With 37 new faces on the 90-man roster that will be brought into training camp, the Patriots will look much different to begin 2026.
Here’s a closer look at how New England’s offseason went, and where the roster currently stands in late July:
Departures

They parted ways with several of their in-house free agents in favor of new faces, released others, and traded two — leaving behind a total of 23 former contributors that are on to their next chapters.
In-House Free Agents
- CB Alex Austin: Signed with the Miami Dolphins on a one-year, $1.22 million dollar contract (per Spotrac).
- ED K’Lavon Chaisson: Signed with the Washington Commanders on a one-year, $11 million contract.
- OT Yasir Durant (Restricted Free Agent, RFA): Currently a free agent.
- LB Jack Gibbens (RFA): Signed with the Arizona Cardinals on a two-year, $7.5 million contract.
- S Jaylinn Hawkins: Signed with the Baltimore Ravens on a two-year, $10 million contract.
- TE Austin Hooper: Signed with the Atlanta Falcons on a one-year, $3.25 million contract.
- RB D’Ernest Johnson: Currently a free agent.
- OT Vederian Lowe: Signed with the San Francisco 49ers on a two-year, $9.25 million contract.

- RB Deneric Prince (Exclusive Rights Free Agent, ERFA): Currently a free agent.

Instead, they used their successes and failures in year one of the Mike Vrabel era as a blueprint to build around the young foundation of talent that helped lift them to new heights early.
Those upgrades will now be tested under pressure for the first time in 2026. Training camp will serve as a glimpse into the state of the team as they prepare to make another playoff push this fall.
