Where are the Patriots stronger after the 2026 NFL Draft? Where do they still need to add talent? We’ll take a closer look at the roster on this week’s episode of the Patriots Roundtable Podcast, and highlight the class of undrafted rookies who will be participating in minicamp later this week.
Free agency and the NFL Draft are in the books, and the New England Patriots have filled out their preliminary 90-man roster for the 2026 season. While further moves are still expected before training camp, New England has a clear baseline for what the team will look like as it prepares for another playoff push.
On this week’s Patriots Roundtable Podcast, Tyler and Eddie examine the two biggest questions facing the franchise: Where are the Patriots stronger after the 2026 NFL Draft, and where do they still need to add talent? We review the key upgrades, the added depth at skill positions, and the remaining areas of the roster that could use one more piece before the season begins.
The Patriots used free agency to acquire high-impact starters at several positions of need, highlighted by Alijah Vera-Tucker and Romeo Doubs on offense and Kevin Byard III and Dre’Mont Jones on defense. In the draft, they shored up the trenches on both sides of the ball by adding high-upside athleticism at offensive tackle with Caleb Lomu and brought in immediate pass-rush help with second-round pick Gabe Jacas. The addition of tight end Eli Raridon also provides a long-term solution at the position with big-play potential and plus run-blocking ability, rounding out a skill-position group that feels deeper and more versatile than it has in recent years.
Depth was also a major focus. The Patriots used the middle and later rounds of the draft plus the undrafted free-agent market to add competition at cornerback, linebacker, and interior offensive line. These moves reflect the patient, foundation-first approach the team has followed all offseason, ensuring the roster stays young, cost-controlled, and built for sustained success around Maye.
That said, there are still a few areas where the Patriots could look to add one more piece before training camp. At the top of that list remains nose tackle, linebacker, guard, and across the secondary. Where might the team prioritize adding a veteran that’s still on the free agent market? We’ll review.
To round out our overview of the current 90-man roster, this week’s episode also dives into the full list of undrafted rookies and rookie minicamp invitees who will get their first chance to impress the coaching staff May 8-10. These prospects bring athletic upside and special-teams potential that could help fill out the bottom of the roster and provide future developmental value.
