New England Patriots QB Drake Maye could win the 2025 NFL MVP Award.
Maye is a finalist for the AP Most Valuable Player Award.
"Maye's inclusion among the league's most valuable players underscores one of the most impactful individual seasons by a quarterback in Patriots history, which is saying a lot," Mike Dussault of Patriots.com wrote. "In his first full season as the team's full-time starter, Maye elevated the entire offense with consistent production, poise in critical moments, and weekly growth as both a passer and decision-maker. Maye led the NFL and set a Patriots franchise record with a 72 percent completion rate."
Maye is only in his second season in the NFL, but he's already established himself as one of the top QBs in the league. The UNC product finished the 2025 regular season with 4,394 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns while completing 72.0% of his passes.
The Patriots face the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game. New England is favored to win since Denver won't have starting QB Bo Nix.
It will be fascinating to see if Maye and Co. can beat Denver to advance to the Super Bowl in only Maye's second NFL season.
"Back on the road in an AFC Championship game," Maye said. "That speaks for itself. I'm just trying to enjoy these playoff wins."
The Patriots selected Maye with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Maye has 6,670 passing yards and 46 passing touchdowns in the regular season.
"He's extremely accurate," Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said about Maye. "He's made the most of every passing opportunity. We've created a lot of X plays, and to create X plays it's about 30% scheme, it's about 70% of the players making a play and part of that is the quarterback putting it in a great location for run after catch. I think you continue to see that.
"His ability to extend, use his legs to gain first downs, critical first downs. His ability to score when we've asked him to score and run it in. He's been everything that we've asked and he continues to get better. He's not satisfied. So, I know that our success of where we are right now, today, has a lot to do with Drake Maye."
