It has been a noisy offseason for the New England Patriots.
In a story titled "1 Word to Describe the Pre-Camp Vibe of All 32 NFL Teams," NFL analyst Moe Moton of Bleacher Report wrote this about the New England Patriots:
"Noisy. It's been far from a quiet offseason for a team widely viewed as a rising perennial contender, highlighted by a high-profile controversy involving head coach Mike Vrabel and the blockbuster acquisition of star receiver A.J. Brown."
In Year 2 of the Vrabel era, the Patriots face the Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos.
It will be fascinating to see how the Patriots do in 2026. If they miss the playoffs, Vrabel will be heavily blamed because of the Dianna Russini scandal.
For what it's worth, Patriots star QB Drake Maye doesn't think the Vrabel-Russini scandal will distract the team next season.
"No, I don't," Maye said. "I mean, he's our head coach. I think he's done a great job of talking to us and talking us through it. I'm just looking forward to getting back to work and getting ready."
Maye finished the 2025 regular season with 4,394 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns while completing 72.0% of his passes. He finished in second in MVP voting to Rams QB Matthew Stafford.
Since entering the NFL, new Patriots WR A.J. Brown is fourth in the league in both receiving yards (8,029) and touchdown catches (56). Brown and Ja'Marr Chase are the NFL's only two players with at least 1,000 receiving yards and seven-plus touchdown catches in each of the past four seasons.
It will be intriguing to see how Brown performs in 2026 in Josh McDaniels' offense. The Patriots open the season with a Super Bowl rematch against the Seahawks in Seattle.
Maye enters next season with 6,670 passing yards and 46 passing touchdowns. The UNC product can't wait to play with Brown in the regular season.
"It's hard not to get excited," Maye said. "What a player he is, and just right off the bat, what a great teammate so far. He's been a guy that you see on 'SportsCenter' the next day, making plays and scoring."
