Former New England Patriots WR Stefon Diggs won his trial. Does that mean he will be back in Foxborough?
New England Patriots insider Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston doesn't see a Stefon Diggs reunion happening.
Diggs was found not guilty on of assaulting his private chef in a pay dispute and is free to sign with any team of his choice.
Perry, though, believes the Patriots released Diggs for other reasons.
"If they miss out on A.J Brown, I guess that's a different topic or it just gives it a new wrinkle that I'm not really considering right now," Perry said. "With A.J. Brown anticipated to be in the fold, I don't see Stefon Diggs coming back. I don't really think this court case had anything to do with the Patriots releasing him.
"I think that the move to part ways with him was more about money owed and age and a willingness and a desire to upgrade, which I think they think they have done with Romeo Dobbs. So before even adding A.J Brown, I think they think they're better off at that position right now."
Diggs had 85 catches for 1,013 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns last season. He helped the Patriots reach the Super Bowl, where New England lost to the Seattle Seahawks.
The Patriots released Diggs at the start of the 2026 league year. Diggs had an additional $6 million set to become fully guaranteed in March.
Diggs has played for the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans and Patriots. He has 942 catches for 11,504 receiving yards and 74 receiving touchdowns in the NFL.
Diggs has made four Pro Bowls and one All-Pro team. It will be fascinating to see how if he lands with a new team after winning his trial.
The Patriots don't need Diggs because they signed Romeo Dobbs in free agency and are expected to acquire A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in June.
