Despite not putting up great numbers in his rookie year, we may see big strides forward for this year 2 wideout.
In life, anytime there is uncertainty, it's always best to focus on what you can control and what you can't. New England Patriots second-year receiver Kyle Williams has chosen to do just that.
There seem to be some changes on the horizon for the Patriots when it comes to the wide receiver room. Who's leaving and who's staying? All of this is due to the impending possibility of the Patriots trading for A.J. Brown.
Williams said on Wednesday that, when asked where his focus is right now amid all of that, his focus is "where my feet are." A nod to the rumors of him being part of the trade package for Brown, potentially.
Williams also promised a big jump in his second season in the NFL. In 2025, after going 69th overall, Williams only played 31 percent of the Patriots' offensive snaps and caught only 10 passes during the regular season.
Those numbers may be low, but Williams' catches averaged more than 20 yards down the field and racked up three touchdowns. One of which was a standout play on a Sunday Night Football game against the Baltimore Ravens in a come-from-behind win.
Williams also mentioned something that proves he's better for bigger strides ahead in his sophomore season. It seems he's bulked up a bit.
"Play strength was definitely something that I wanted to emphasize," Williams said. "I knew that I needed to get my lower half stronger and bulk up a little bit, coming across the middle, getting off press, and all that type of stuff. So that was one of my biggest emphasis, mobility, and just putting on a little weight."
Williams added five to eight pounds this offseason due to a high-protein diet, fruit snacks, and candy. Last season, he was 185 pounds "soaking wet."
"I would say that for me now from my rookie year is going to be night and day, for sure," said Williams. "I learned a lot just by being able to sit back. I had great vets in the room; I had a great coaching staff, like, just a great team overall that just helped me get through my rookie stage."
Williams' alluding to his growth this offseason definitely makes him look good to the Boston media, but let's be honest here, if he is part of a potential A.J. Brown trade package in the coming weeks, it's important that he gives off the proper vibe to a new team that would acquire him.
