The New England Patriots’ 2025 draft class helped fuel last season’s playoff run, and this week we examine which of those players are positioned to become even bigger contributors in 2026.
The New England Patriots are set to begin Organized Team Activities (OTAs) this week, showcasing their new additions on the field with returning veterans for the first time.
While free agent and NFL Draft acquisitions will steal headlines, the most vital group to keep a close eye on may actually be New England’s sophomore class. Lost in the flash of the NFL’s offseason cycle is an organization’s most instrumental tool in building a sustainable contender: internal development.
For the Patriots, their 2025 draft class produced high-impact contributors on both sides of the ball. Whether it was Will Campbell and TreVeyon Henderson as top picks, Kyle Williams, Jared Wilson, and Craig Woodson in the heart of the draft, Andy Borregales and Julian Ashby in the later rounds, or Elijah Ponder and Efton Chism III as undrafted rookie free agents, New England saw success with rookies acquired at every level last season.
Last year, each of those players experienced an expedited timeline to prepare for their first NFL season. After a Super Bowl LX run in their rookie years, they now have a clearer understanding of the physical and mental demands of the NFL schedule, the team’s expectations, and their place within the scheme.
Now, they’ve had a full offseason focused solely on Patriots football — and enter 2026 OTAs with the opportunity to earn a more significant role.
On this week’s Patriots Roundtable Podcast, Eddie and Tyler each pick their top three year-two leap candidates on New England’s roster. Who will make the greatest strides in their development this offseason? Who separates themselves as a key contributor heading into 2026? We each reveal our top picks this week.
The Patriots have taken steps this offseason toward building a sustainable contender through free agency and the NFL Draft, but that process began in year one of the Mike Vrabel regime with a draft class full of young talent that helped fuel a championship run. Those same players are now primed for the most significant offseason of development in their careers and will be looking to put their stamp on the identity of the 2026 team.
Who do you think takes the biggest step forward for New England this year? Which year-two player excites you the most heading into 2026? Drop your thoughts in the comments below and join the conversation on Patriots Roundtable.
