New England Patriots QB Drake Maye could win the MVP Award this season.

The NFL announced major Drake Maye news on Wednesday, as the New England Patriots QB is the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 13.

The Patriots beat the New York Giants on Monday Night Football behind Maye.

"Having emerged as a leading MVP candidate, Maye has now collected his first Player of the Week honor," per NFL.com. "The second-year quarterback was stellar on Monday night, leading his Patriots to their 10th straight win, a 33-15 throttling of the New York Giants. Maye was 24 of 31 for 282 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 126.0 passer rating. He's now thrown for more than 200 yards in every game this season -- no other QB has done that this year.

"Monday also marked Maye's 10th straight game with an 80-plus passer rating in a win, tying him with Hall of Famer Dan Marino in 1984 for the longest such streak for a player prior to turning 24 since at least 1950."

Maybe could win the MVP Award this season. He has 3,412 passing yards and 23 passing touchdowns.

The UNC product leads the league in passing yards and completion percentage.

"Shoot, I wish it was all me," Maye said. "There's a lot of people in this locker room, this organization, that play a big role in us winning games. And shoot, just like you, showing up every day and making fun of you all for being in the locker room on a Friday asking us questions after practice, these guys are the same thing.

"They show up every day and they want to get better. And just proud of the guys and this team we have and love being around them."

The Patriots have the best record in the NFL at 11-2. They are Super Bowl contenders for the first time in the post-Tom Brady era.

New England is off next week, so it was important for Maye and Co. to enter the bye week on a high note.

"I think wanting to win before the bye, want to win every game," Maye said. "Kind of don't want to leave off on the bye on a bad foot home, Monday night game. It was important for us to play on Monday night and show up for our fans, and it was a game that we didn't want to take lightly. I think the guys did that, proud of the guys for that. Bye week is huge. Felt like a long time coming, but we're here, and we have some important football after the bye week.

"We're looking forward to staying and getting healthy having guys that want to get better and get some guys back and make a push when football starts to count down the road."

After the bye week, the Patriots close out the season facing the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets and Miami Dolphins.
