The ongoing saga of if A.J. Brown go to the Patriots get's an update.
We're less than a month away from potentially finding out if the Philadelphia Eagles will be trading away wide reciever A.J. Brown.
The reason is that the Eagles plan to save a little on the cap hit that would accrue against them if they traded Brown before June 1st. Therefore, until then, Brown is an Eagle, at least until June 1st.
Through all of this, the one constant in the A.J. Brown sweepstakes has reportedly been the New England Patriots. Brown's reported unhappiness within the Eagles organization and kinship with head coach Mike Vrabel have been the key factors in making him a Patriot by this summer.
At the beginning of draft week, NFL Insider Adam Schefter broke the news that it was more likely Brown would be traded out of Philly and that the Patriots were the main landing spot for him. It was reported that many NFL executives foresee this move happening, and it is just a matter of time until that June 1st deadline hits.
Schefter appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday with yet another update regarding the Brown trade.
"I think he knows where his future is headed. It'll be a matter of the Patriots and the Eagles getting together to basically process the trade," Schefter said. "There's nothing that has transpired… that has deterred this trade. I still think it is on track. I still think it's going to happen. I still think it will involve a future 1st, likely a 2028 first-round draft pick. I still think all these elements are in place. And I still think that once we get to June, that these two sides will get together and complete a trade that'll send AJ Brown to the New England Patriots."
Although the Patriots are still in the running to land Brown, anything can happen between now and after June 1st. The Patriots are rumored to have their eyes around the league on other WR1s who could fit their system in the event this seemingly handshake agreement falls apart.
Before June 1st, the Eagles' cap hit to move Brown is around $40 million, and after that, it lowers to $16.3 million for the 2026 season.
