The New England Patriots are preparing to battle the Buffalo Bills in an absolutely critical matchup this Sunday, and they may be in the process of catching a huge break.
Bills cornerback Christian Benford popped up on the injury report with a toe injury on Thursday, and he didn't practice on Friday.
Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott said "we really don't know" when asked about Benford's status for Sunday, and while he added that he didn't think it would be a long-term injury, it could be enough to keep him sidelined against the Patriots.
The Bills' defense has been fickle as it this season, and losing Benford, the team's top cornerback, would make things even more difficult for the unit, especially against MVP candidate Drake Maye.
Benford was seen walking around Buffalo's practice facility without a medical boot on his foot, but the fact that he did not participate is obviously not a great sign for the Bills.
The 25-year-old has logged 39 tackles, a couple of sacks, a pair of interceptions (including a pick-six) and two fumble recoveries this season.

Meanwhile, New England is attempting to complete a season sweep of Buffalo while also clinching an AFC East division title. The Bills have won five straight division crowns, with the Pats last capturing one in 2019, which was Tom Brady's final year in Foxborough.
The Patriots are also riding a 10-game win streak this season and are 11-2 on the year overall, tied with the Denver Broncos for the best record in football.
However, the Broncos hold the tiebreaker over New England, so they are currently the No. 1 seed with four games left to play. They will face the Green Bay Packers this weekend.
The Pats went just 4-13 a year ago and most widely viewed their roster as the worst in football, so this has truly been a remarkable turnaround. We'll see if they can cement themselves as AFC East champions with a win over the Bills at Gillette Stadium this Sunday.
