Maybe the New England Patriots should keep Kayshon Boutte.
New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte has been the subject of trade rumors this offseason. He has one year left on his contract and didn't attend voluntary workouts.
However, maybe the Patriots should keep Boutte, who is playing very, very well at training camp, per ESPN.
Boutte appeared in 14 games for the Patriots last season. He had 33 receptions for 551 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.
New England drafted Boutte with the 187th overall pick in the 2023 draft out of LSU. Boutte enters this season with 78 career receptions for 1,159 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns.
The Patriots signed Romeo Doubs and acquired A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. Doubs didn't practice on Wednesday (8/5) and Boutte shined with Drake Maye.
"I think the way Kayshon has approached it -- he's here now, he's where his feet are at," Maye said. "I'm having fun throwing to him out there in practice. He's doing a great job. He makes plays when the football is in the air, and I think that speaks for itself. I've had a lot of great times with Kayshon and I'm looking forward to keep getting better each and every day."
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, New England is hoping to get a third-round pick in exchange for Boutte. At that price, Boutte would be a tremendous value for a receiver-needy team.
The Patriots open the season with a Super Bowl rematch against the Seahawks in Seattle. Let's see if Boutte is still on the team or gets traded.
"I want to be in New England for the rest of my career I would say," Boutte said. "I enjoy it out here. Been here three years. Every day I'm here. I call this home. This is my new home. Grew up in Louisiana. Stayed there 20 years, but now, Boston is my life."
