New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel believes he coached the MVP this season.
While speaking to reporters on Monday, Vrabel doubled down on why he thinks QB Drake Maye should win the MVP Award this season.
"He's extremely accurate," Vrabel said about Maye. "He's made the most of every passing opportunity. We've created a lot of X plays, and to create X plays it's about 30% scheme, it's about 70% of the players making a play and part of that is the quarterback putting it in a great location for run after catch. I think you continue to see that. His ability to extend, use his legs to gain first downs, critical first downs. His ability to score when we've asked him to score and run it in. He's been everything that we've asked and he continues to get better. He's not satisfied. So, I know that our success of where we are right now, today, has a lot to do with Drake Maye."
Maye put up stellar numbers this season. The UNC product finished with 4,394 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, 450 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns and led the NFL in completion percentage (72.0%).
Behind Maye, the Patriots won 14 games and are the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs. They are Super Bowl contenders for the first time in the post-Tom Brady era.
New England faces the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card round. It's a matchup between two of the best QBs in the NFL in Maye and Justin Herbert.
"Yeah, I don't know if I've met Justin," Maye said. "I don't think I have. I know him through people and heard great things. Obviously I love his game. I love the way he throws the football. He throws at a really high level. He can make plays on the move, can make plays off platform, can launch it.
"I think just the way he holds himself and cares about his teammates, he's really good the team and not about himself, I have a lot of respect for Justin and how he plays the game and plays at a really high level."
The Patriots-Chargers game figures to be highly competitive from start to finish. Let's see how Maye plays in his first NFL playoff game.
