The New England Patriots have suffered another brutal injury.
The New England Patriots were able to win their third straight game on Sunday, taking down the New York Jets.
But in the game, the Patriots did lose another wide receiver to injury. Veteran Romeo Doubs left the game early after catching a touchdown pass from quarterback Drake Maye.
Now, the Patriots are placing Doubs on injured reserve, in another setback for this offensive attack this season. On the year, Doubs had caught 14 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns, giving New England a boost on offense.
New England had just gotten back star wide receiver A.J. Brown in the game against the Jets, so this is a tough loss. The Patriots haven't had their entire wide receiving core together for a full game this season, and it's hurt the offense at times.
Doubs did a good job of holding down the fort while Brown was out, and now the veteran is going to have to do the same. Brown will have to step up even more with Doubs out for at least four games, giving the Patriots some extra firepower.
New England had envisioned on having both Brown and Doubs leading this group, giving Maye a lot of weapons to work with. But this team will have to navigate the next few weeks without Doubs, who has been excellent for them so far this year.
Luckily for the Patriots, Maye has started to play much cleaner football, with the team winning three straight games. After a slow start for both Maye and the entire team, New England has gotten back on track, sitting with a record of 4-2 on the season.
Maye hasn't turned the ball over as much during this recent winning streak, giving the Patriots new life on offense. This has allowed New England to get it together, and his turnaround has been one of the bigger storylines of the year so far.
The Patriots have looked more like the team that went to the Super Bowl last season, and the group will now try to build on that going forward. New England still has goals of winning the title, and this team has the tools to make it happen.
Next up for the Patriots is a game against the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football, giving the team a short week to prepare. Chicago is also 4-2 on the season, setting up a fun matchup between the two teams this week.
