Drake Maye sent a very simple message before the upcoming Steelers game for the New England Patriots.
The New England Patriots are preparing for their upcoming Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
This comes after a tough loss in Week 1 to the Seattle Seahawks that saw some problematic issues arise. Quarterback Drake Maye threw three interceptions in the game, including one at the end of the fourth quarter that sealed the win for Seattle.
Maye took the blame for the loss to the Seahawks, with the Patriots collapsing in the second half. New England blew a 10-0 lead in the third quarter before Seattle took control at the end.
But heading into the game with the Steelers, Maye had a simple message. The Patriots star channeled his inner Bill Belichick, the former New England head coach, in his comments.
"We're on to Pittsburgh. We got another week, another chance in this league. Dealing with the ups and downs in this league, that's part of it--playing in the National Football League," Maye said.
In the loss to the Seahawks, New England also lost star wide receiver A.J. Brown for at least the next four weeks. Brown left the game in the third quarter due to injury, and he has now been placed on the injured reserve.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel weighed in on the injury to Brown, saying that the team will get him back on the field as soon as possible.
"Well, I mean, everybody's disappointed for him, and he's disappointed," Vrabel said. "You know what I mean? He wants to play. He's a competitor, and we'll have to get him back as quickly as possible. Obviously at a four-game window, and make sure that he's ready to go mentally and physically when he does get back."
Once Brown left the game, the Patriots' offense didn't look the same, failing to get anything explosive down the field. Not having Brown did hurt Maye in the second half, leading to his turnovers.
But Maye does need to be better with where and how he throws the ball. Far too often against the Seahawks, both in this Week 1 loss and the Super Bowl back in February, Maye wasn't careful, leading to issues.
If Maye can put together a better outing in Week 2, New England may be able to come out with the win. But it's going to take the entire team coming together against a Steelers team that is hungry to knock them off.
