The 2026 NFL Draft offers New England a chance to keep the momentum going. On this week's episode of the Patriots Roundtable Podcast, we run Mock Draft 3.0 — focusing on the three premium positions in play at 31 and how the full 11-pick class can create a more complete roster.

The free-agency period has slowed, and the NFL Draft is less than one month away.

The New England Patriots addressed several areas of need in March, but the roster still has depth concerns that the 2026 NFL Draft can fill. With 11 picks in hand — including the 31st overall selection — New England is in position to add high-upside talent that can contribute right away and grow alongside the young core.

Mock Draft 3.0 is our latest run at building a sustainable contender. This time we’re zeroing in on the biggest decision of the night: Will the Patriots use their first-round pick on an offensive tackle, an edge rusher, or a wide receiver?

The parameters for Mock Draft 3.0

We’re building on the last two mocks with a few key updates.

  • Trades are still on the table. With a healthy stack of Day 3 picks, New England has the flexibility to move around the board if the right player is there.
  • We’re drafting more for need than pure best-player-available. The goal is to address the remaining gaps while taking advantage of where the class is deepest.
  • We’ll examine the draft class itself. Where is the talent concentrated? Where does the drop-off happen? And, most importantly, what does the board look like when pick 31 rolls around?

What we’re trying to learn

Eddie and Tyler will use this mock to answer a few key questions heading into the draft.

1) What must be addressed at pick 31?

The conversation has narrowed to three premium positions: offensive tackle, edge rusher, and wide receiver. Each comes with its own timeline and scheme fit. We’ll test which one feels most urgent when the Patriots are on the clock at 31.

2) Where can you let the board come to you?

With only three top-100 picks, New England can’t chase every need early. Some positions — safety, tight end, interior line — may offer better value on Day 2 or even Day 3. How does the depth of this class influence those decisions?

3) How do you use 11 picks to keep building the “middle class” of the roster?

The 2025 class proved how valuable Day 3 capital can be for depth and special-teams contributors. Mock 3.0 will show how the Patriots can use their later selections to add versatile pieces that keep the roster young, cheap, and competitive for years to come.

Why these position groups are high on the board

Mock Draft 3.0 puts the spotlight squarely on the first-round conversation while still addressing the full roster picture.

  • Offensive tackle / Edge rusher / Wide receiver: The Patriots’ first-round choice at 31 is likely to be one of these three. Each would immediately impact the offensive line, pass rush, or skill-position group around Drake Maye.
  • Defensive back: Depth remains a priority even after the free-agency additions.
  • Tight end / Interior line: Value can be found later, but the class depth will dictate when the Patriots pull the trigger.

The point of Mock Draft 3.0

Free agency gave the Patriots immediate help and cap flexibility. Now it’s time to see how those moves shape the draft strategy — especially that critical first-round decision between offensive tackle, edge, or wide receiver.

This mock isn’t about predicting every pick; it’s about mapping out a realistic, need-driven blueprint that turns 11 selections into long-term roster strength.

Which of the three first-round options — offensive tackle, edge rusher, or wide receiver — feels most important to you at pick 31?

Where do you think the Patriots can comfortably wait until Day 2 or Day 3?
