Drake Maye had two touchdowns against the Dolphins.

The New England Patriots avoided a major upset by beating the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, 24-19.

Miami came into the game with just one win. It would have been a really, really bad loss for New England.

Not only did the Patriots beat the Dolphins, but QB Drake Maye also continued his recently solid stretch, going 16/20 through the air for 199 passing yards. The UNC product threw two touchdowns and didn't get intercepted.

Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski gave Maye a B+ QB grade for his performance against the Dolphins. Not too bad.

The Patriots improved to 5-3 by beating the Dolphins. Maye and Co. are in second place in the AFC East. The Buffalo Bills are in first place. They are 6-1.

In his third season with the Patriots, Maye has 1,983 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns and eight interceptions. He's completing 67.1% of his passes.

Over his last four games, Maye has only one interception, which is a good sign. The gunslinger had seven interceptions in the first four games of the season.

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford won the MVP award last season over Maye, who led the Patriots to the Super Bowl in just his second NFL season. Maye finished the 2025 regular season with 4,394 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns while completing 72.0% of his passes.

The Patriots beat the Dolphins without WR A.J. Brown, who is dealing with a knee injury. It's been a tough season for Brown.

New England acquired Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason. Brown has only nine catches this season for 101 yards.

Brown had a knee issue flare up last week, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He was limited last Wednesday and could not finish that practice, then sat out Thursday and Friday. By Wednesday night, the injury report listed the knee alongside the right high ankle sprain from the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

Next up for the Patriots is a matchup against the Green Bay Packers, who are 5-3. It's unknown if Brown will play in that game.

Maye will enter the Patriots-Packers game with 8,653 passing yards and 61 touchdowns passes in a New England uniform. He's quickly established himself as one of the best QBs in the league.

The next step for Maye is to cut down on the turnovers and lead the Patriots to a Super Bowl for the first time in the post-Tom Brady era. No one expects Maye to win six rings in New England like Brady, but at least one title would be nice.
