New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson could play in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers after missing Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Henderson (ankle) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
"I think he will be able to do some more today, so we will continue to evaluate that and see where he is, and hopefully that continues to trend in the right direction," Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said.
Henderson had the most rushing yards per attempt (5.1), was tied for the most rushing touchdowns (nine) and had the second-most scrimmage yards (1,132) among rookies last season. He joined Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley and Pro Football Hall of Famer Lenny Moore as the only rookies in NFL history with four rushing touchdowns of 50 or more yards.
Henderson had 911 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns in the 2025 regular season. He helped the Patriots go 14-3 and win the AFC.
The Patriots selected Henderson with the 38th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. Henderson is expected to be New England's starting RB for the entire Drake Maye era.
New England lost to Seattle in Week 1. The Patriots trailed 13-10 with 26 seconds left in regulation. Maye and the offense were on the Seahawks' 16-yard line, facing a 3rd-and-5.
Maye took the snap out of the shotgun, drifted back and to the right and floated a ball to the right side of the end zone where Mack Hollins was.
The problem is that Maye underthrew the ball badly and it was picked off by Josh Jobe.
Maye did not play well in Week 1. He finished with 178 passing yards, one passing touchdown and three interceptions while completing 69.7% of his passes.
The Patriots had only 277 total yards against the Seahawks.
Just like the Super Bowl, Seattle's defense shut down New England's offense.
"You've got to stick together and that starts with me getting back to work and having the right intention in practice," Maye said. "These guys are here for me. I think they've done a great job in supporting me and have had my back. I've got to earn their trust. I know I have their trust, but I got to keep on putting better football out there. I think it's Week 1 but at the same time, there's a full season ahead but you got to get this going early. We got to start off on the right foot. I know what we had last year, but we got a new season, a new team, and we need to build that."
If Henderson plays against the Steelers, the Patriots' offense should be more explosive.
