The New England Patriots (1-1) are back on the road in Week 3, with a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1) on Sunday, September 27.

On offense, the Patriots are hopeful that more time on task will yield greater results through the air and on the ground. Quarterback Drake Maye has slowly worked his way into form at the start of the regular season, but has yet to capture the MVP-caliber showings he put together on a weekly basis throughout the 2025 season. His top option out wide continues to be free agent acquisition Romeo Doubs as A.J. Brown remains on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain. The former looked to make strides forward after a difficult start in the NFL’s kickoff game against the Seattle Seahawks, but his Week 2 performance still left room for further improvement.
New England’s rushing attack received a spark of explosive energy last week with the return of TreVeyon Henderson, but continued inefficiencies on a per-down basis plague the group.
On defense, the Patriots have put out their best efforts since 2019, allowing just 16 points in two games and ranking top-five in several statistical and analytical categories. This Sunday’s outing will be much different.
Rather than lining up across from the likes of Drew Lock and 42-year-old Aaron Rodgers, Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville offense are a threat to put up 20-plus points whenever they take the field. They did so in 10 consecutive games during the 2025 season, and once more in Week 1 of 2026. The Jaguars will present the greatest challenge for New England’s defense yet, and will be a much clearer litmus test of their capabilities against elite talent.
From a familiar face in wide receiver Jakobi Meyers to a rare two-play superstar in Travis Hunter, Jacksonville has a strong supporting cast on offense and defense that will push the Patriots’ thinning depth to their limits. We review how New England will be able to turn the tides in their favor in an early-season clash of two AFC playoff contenders.
