The New England Patriots have been busy.

The New England Patriots have been busy since free agency started.

On Wednesday, the Patriots released OLB Anfernee Jennings and signed former Miami Dolphins LB K.J. Britt.

Jennings was due to earn $4 million in cash in 2026, which was the final year of his contract. He had a salary-cap charge of $4.86 million. The Patriots created about $3.8 million in cap space by releasing Jennings.

The 28-year-old Jennings played 14 regular-season games in 2025, with three starts (32% of the snaps). He totaled 19 tackles, two sacks and seven quarterback hits while adding seven special-teams tackles. Jennings also played in all four playoff games, totaling 16 tackles, two sacks and one pass defended.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel named Jennings a game captain before the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos. Vrabel, Jennings and Co. lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl.

For the Dolphins last season, Britt put up 12 solo tackles and one QB hit. It will be intriguing to see how he plays in Vrabel's defense.

New England racked up 35 sacks in 2025. That was good for only 25th in the NFL. Vrabel's defense needs to get more pressure on opposing QBs next season.

It will be fascinating to see if the Patriots can return to the Super Bowl next season. WR Stefon Diggs has already been released after just one season in New England. The veteran is facing felony strangulation and other criminal charges stemming from an alleged dispute with his personal chef. Diggs pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is next scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing on April 1.

Diggs had 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns last season. The Patriots were interested in trading for Chicago Bears WR D.J. Moore, but the Bears traded Moore to the Buffalo Bills.

Expect New England to pursue Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown now. Vrabel coached Brown in Tennessee.
