The New England Patriots have been busy.

A few days after parting ways with WR Stefon Diggs, the New England Patriots have signed a player.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Patriots are signing QB Tommy DeVito to a two-year, $7.4 million deal.

The Patriots claimed DeVito off waivers last August. The QB was released by the New York Giants.

DeVito didn't appear in a game last season for the Patriots, who lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl. DeVito has 1,358 passing yards and eight passing touchdowns in the NFL.

The Patriots have one of the best starting QBs in the NFL in Drake Maye. The UNC product finished the 2025 regular season with 4,394 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns while completing 72.0% of his passes.

Maye finished the Super Bowl with 295 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and two interceptions. It's fair to wonder how he would have played against the Seahawks had he not gotten hurt against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.

"My arm was feeling great all year. I don't think throwing was the [issue]. It's a case of having one hit in the AFC Championship Game that was unfortunate timing," Maye said after the Super Bowl.

"You can't blame things on injuries. Things happen like this all the time in the league. I was blessed this year -- what a year of health. You can't zone in on one little thing on the shoulder -- it was just unfortunate that it happened to be the throwing one. At the same time, I could have prevented it or made more plays. I was feeling like I was able to make throws in the game and was myself."

The Super Bowl showed that the Patriots need to shore up their offensive line. Maye had no time to pass the ball against the Seahawks' lethal defensive line.

"It stings. It's going to sting for a while," Maye said. "It's what makes this sport special. We were close, and you got to try to find that extra edge. I didn't play as well as I would have liked down the stretch, but I'm going to promise to do my best to work hard and get us back to those moments in those games."
