The New England Patriots have a new No. 1 WR after parting ways with Stefon Diggs.
New England is signing former Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $70 million contract.
Doubs appeared in 16 games for the Packers last season. He put up 55 catches for 724 and six touchdowns.
Green Bay selected Doubs with the 132nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He enters next season with 202 catches for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns.
In Year 1 of the Vrabel era, the Patriots made it all the way to the Super Bowl. New England lost to the Seattle Seahawks.
Diggs had 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns last season. The Patriots were interested in trading for Chicago Bears WR D.J. Moore, but the Bears traded Moore to the Buffalo Bills.
Diggs is facing felony strangulation and other criminal charges stemming from an alleged dispute with his personal chef. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. The veteran is next scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing on April 1.
The Patriots have one of the best starting QBs in the NFL in Drake Maye. The UNC product finished the 2025 regular season with 4,394 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns while completing 72.0% of his passes.
Maye finished the Super Bowl with 295 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and two interceptions. It's fair to wonder how he would have played against the Seahawks had he not gotten hurt against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.
"My arm was feeling great all year. I don't think throwing was the [issue]. It's a case of having one hit in the AFC Championship Game that was unfortunate timing," Maye said after the Super Bowl.
"You can't blame things on injuries. Things happen like this all the time in the league. I was blessed this year -- what a year of health. You can't zone in on one little thing on the shoulder -- it was just unfortunate that it happened to be the throwing one. At the same time, I could have prevented it or made more plays. I was feeling like I was able to make throws in the game and was myself."
