Stefon Diggs was a free agent last offseason and came close to signing with the Denver Broncos.
However, after careful deliberation, Diggs left the Houston Texans for the New England Patriots.
During Super Bowl media day, Diggs explained why he signed with the Patriots instead of the Broncos.
"Mainly, when I was signing, you kind of – it's kind of a figure-it-out kind of process, and I kind of leaned towards my experience," Diggs said. "I played against Sean Payton a lot. I've seen what his offense can do. So, that was the one thing. And then a couple people on the staff that I knew. Davis Webb, I was familiar with. He helped me out a lot in Buffalo as far as learning the plays. Buffalo was a different place. Their offensive scheme with [Brian] Daboll, he ran a lot of stuff. Davis Webb, knew a lot of that. He taught me a lot about the offense. He's a good friend of mine. I think he's going to be a hell of a coach one day. That's kind of how it ended up happening.
"And in weighing my options on what's going to be the best, I also like Coach Vrabes [Mike Vrabel]. I had a little bit of interaction with him at Pro Bowl and stuff like that. And they had a young quarterback. They both had young quarterbacks. When you weigh all the pros and cons, I felt the Patriots were probably going to be the best fit. And it wasn't too far from home."
Diggs made the right choice, as the Patriots beat the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game and are one win away from winning the championship.
New England faces the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl.
"I'm just thankful to be where I am right now," Diggs said. "I want to appreciate it, and the best way I can do that is nurture the blessing that God's given me, get back to work, get on the grind and trying to find a way to earn a win."
Diggs finished the regular season with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.
In the AFC playoffs against the Los Angeles Chargers, Texans and Broncos, Diggs racked up 11 catches for 73 yards and one touchdown.
Diggs is one win away from being an NFL champion. Let's see if the Pro Bowler and the Patriots can beat the Seahawks in the big game.
