With Diggs cleared of all charges and still without a team to play for in 2026, should the Patriots just bring him back?

Former Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs found himself clear of legal troubles this week. A jury acquitted him of felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges that came from payment issues between Diggs and a personal chef he had this past season.

Diggs has had a tough offseason, at least in the public eye. There was this pending legal issue, the Cardi B breakup, and then the breakup with the New England Patriots after just one season, after he had signed a three-year deal.

Now the narrative has shifted a bit. Diggs being released by the Patriots never felt like a falling out between both parties but rather a mutual understanding. The Patriots may or may not have wanted to tell him to take a pay cut; Diggs may or may not have countered by saying he had earned all his contractual bonuses with the Patriots.

Which he had indeed done.

In the wake of Diggs being cleared in court, he took to social media with a post that sounds a lot like he wants any NFL team to get him because he is available for work in 2026.

Let's not let one thing go unnoticed. With Diggs available to sign with a team, Patriots VP of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf seemingly left the door open for a reunion with the wide receiver this offseason.

Wolf "never likes to rule anything out," he said about a Diggs reunion even after the Patriots released him back in March.

There is another factor in all of this, and that is the Patriots' supposed interest in A.J. Brown. A trade between the Eagles and Patriots for Brown could occur in less than a month if true due to the post-June 1st cap hit for the Eagles decreasing.

Would the Patriots want Brown now if they could get Diggs at a lower price? Would Diggs want to play on a veteran contract? Could they have both?

There's no way the Patriots' front office hasn't thought about this yet, because, despite the difficult decisions that need to be made, these are indeed good decisions to have on the table.
