Let's be honest, the last 36 hours of news centered around the New England Patriots have been less than pleasant. So why not switch things up a bit?
This week, WNBA star Caitlin Clark hopped on Travis and Jason Kelce's highly famous New Heights podcast. She was asked about her take on this season and who she's pulling for as the playoffs draw close.
The former WNBA Rookie of the Year proclaimed that she, in fact, is a Drake Maye fan.
Clark is an avid fan of Travis Kelce's buddy Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. A lifelong fan of the team, even in down years. But the Chiefs won't be making the playoffs this year.
The New England Patriots will, though.
"I'm a Drake Maye fan; I think he's been incredible," Clark said. "I’ll probably be pulling for the Patriots." Clark would then go on to discuss the landscape of the NFL playoff picture and how stacked the NFC ranks are compared to the AFC.
"I think the Rams are really good too," Clark continued. "Sam Darnold seems like a good guy, I could root for him, too." Travis Kelce would chime in, saying he could "root for all of them." Clark jokingly replied, saying, There's some I can't root for."
Despite injuries that have mounted over the last month, the Patriots still enter the postseason with a lot of momentum. A dominant performance against the New York Jets (as well as a Buffalo Bills loss to the Eagles) on Sunday earned them their first AFC East championship since 2019.
From then until now, no team has really sweated playing the Patriots, either at home or on the road, up to Foxborough.
Now, under Mike Vrabel's program, Josh McDaniels' play-calling, and Drake Maye's quiet yet impactful leadership on the field, many wonder just how far the Pats can go in January.
Maye is now a strong candidate for league MVP. In terms of stats, he leads the league in completion percentage (71.7%), yards per attempt (8.9), and passer rating (112.9). He also became the first player with 90%+ completion, 250+ yards, and 5+ TDs in a game.
Clark definitely knows ball and knows how to pick the right players to follow when the real competitive side of the season starts to take shape.
We'll see if one of the best players to ever step foot on a WNBA court was right in her belief of Maye and the Patriots.
