Drake Maye now sits on top of the NFL as the youngest quarterback to take the lead in completion percentage in the Super Bowl era.

As the rest of the NFL awaits Drake Maye's postseason debut, it's safe to say that his 2025 regular season was one for the books.

Whether he wins league MVP or not in a few weeks' time, Maye has received a ton of comparisons to the likes of Dan Marino's illustrious 1984 season. Then there were some season-long comparisons to a certain quarterback who got the Pats six Super Bowls over a 20-year span as well.

Yes, the Maye and Brady stat wars have some validity for many reasons. The numbers don't lie. It's a sight to see, especially for Pats fans, who thought it would be another decade or more before they saw anything even remotely similar, but still not as good as Brady.

Yet, here we are.

The 2024 second-round pick acquired stats that rank on a grand scale. Maye bested Brady's 2011 Yards Per Attempt stat of 8.6 with 8.9.  Which puts him at first all-time.

Maye finished a little short of Brady's 2007 campaign with a 113.5 passer rating (Brady had 117.2).  That ranked him second all-time.

Maye ties Dan Marino's '84 season at second all-time for being the youngest quarterback to win 14 games in a season. Now the really impressive one.

The Patriots' signal caller had a 72% completion percentage in 2025. That makes him the youngest quarterback in the Super Bowl era to lead in that category.

As the debate rages over whether Maye can best Matthew Stafford for MVP, it must be examined just how much value Maye brings to the Patriots. It was NFL on CBS's JJ Watt who brought up this point on Sunday afternoon during a live hit with the gang at NFL Today. Watt highlighted the value the young quarterback brings to the team, and if you take him out of the picture, the Patriots most likely wouldn't be in the position they're in. Could the same statement be made for Stafford? Maybe, but that offense would find a way to stay afloat if he were injured. It's done it before.

There is no telling what is to come down the road for Maye. Time will tell. The Patriots' 2026 schedule is the complete opposite of this season. 2026 will show us just how legit this team can be against highly competitive teams.

However, when you're breathing down the neck of Tom Brady in terms of season-long stats, you've reached rarefied air, and very well can show just how competitive you can be.
