The Las Vegas Raiders take a 3-2 record into a tough matchup against the 4-1 Buffalo Bills in what should be a high-scoring affair.
The Las Vegas Raiders will look to bounce back in Week 6 as they host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday after getting blown out 45-17 by the New England Patriots last week.
It was the first game that the Raiders really didn’t stand a chance to win throughout the game, because it was the first game that the Patriots offense was firing on all cylinders. New England quarterback Drake Maye scored five total touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) and threw for 374 yards while completing 26 of 34 passes to nine different receivers.
Las Vegas’ defense surrendered 165 yards on the ground on 31 attempts (5.3 yards per carry) with running back Rhamondre Stevenson leading the way – rushing for 64 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
The Raiders’ run defense had been one of the team’s strong suits amid their best start in five years, but over the last two weeks, Las Vegas has allowed 342 rushing yards and four scores. And it’s a trend that may continue against a Buffalo team that loves to run the ball.
Bills QB Josh Allen and RB James Cook III account for most of Buffalo’s rushing attack and it’s a lethal one. If Allen doesn’t burn you through the air and he has space, he’s going to burn you on the ground; which is exactly what he did to the Los Angeles Rams on “Monday Night Football” six days ago.
Allen torched the Rams for 121 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries while only throwing for 210 yards and a score on just 19 passing attempts (12 completions, 63.2 percent). Las Vegas will be extremely wary of Allen’s legs, but that’s when he will try to shred them through the air.
The Raiders will need to be able to get their defense off the field as much as possible and put some points on the board early and often, or we could be in for another blow out in favor of the opponent.
RB Ashton Jeanty, who had been dealing with foot and ankle injuries, will suit up in this one and expected to log a full workload in a massive game for Las Vegas. A healthy Jeanty coupled with All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers, who has been on an absolute tear upon returning from a knee injury, should equate to a lot of offense.
The Bills defense is hurting in terms of injuries to their secondary, so Bowers should feast upon the backups and third-stringers. Bowers caught 24 of 35 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns in just three games thus far.
I expect Bowers to have another insane game in what should be a barnburner of an afternoon slate matchup.
