Clearly, with a 1-4 record through five weeks, the Las Vegas Raiders have more than just one problem. Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon took it a step further, saying everything is a problem for the Raiders besides rookie running back Ashton Jeanty.
In his recent article on the biggest problem for each NFL team heading into Week 6, Gagnon didn’t hold back on the Raiders.
“The rookie running back has delivered, but nothing else is going right offensively for the Raiders,” Gagnon wrote. “Quarterback Geno Smith has thrown a league-high nine interceptions, the offensive line is in complete shambles as a result of injuries and poor execution, and they've been without both Brock Bowers (knee) and Michael Mayer (concussion) at tight end.”
The Las Vegas offense has been a total disaster five weeks into the 2025 season. In five games, the Raiders have put up just 83 points, enough for 29th in the league. The lone bright spot has been Jeanty, who has recorded 411 scrimmage yards and four total touchdowns this season.
Of course, it’s hard to score points when the offense can't stop giving away the ball. As Gagnon mentioned, Smith has struggled with ball security all year long, throwing two three-interception games. There’s only been one game, Week 3 against the Washington Commanders, where he hasn’t turned the ball over.
It’s certainly not the play you hope for from your quarterback, whom you traded for in the offseason, giving away a third-round pick in the process. The trade was supposed to be a win-now move, as Smith is already 35 years old. Coming in with Pete Carroll, there were high expectations for the Raiders, but instead of wins, they’ve produced some ugly football.
The Las Vegas defense isn’t blameless, either. Across five games, they’ve allowed an average of 27.8 points, putting them at 25th in the league. They have just four takeaways this season, allowing for a -6 difference in giveaways and takeaways.
Gagnon, much like many Raiders fans, isn’t optimistic about the outlook for the rest of the season.
“Those guys will return, but their absence combined with left tackle Kolton Miller's serious ankle injury is enough to become convinced that this team will keep plummeting. Even if they beat the lowly Titans to end a four-game losing streak this week, we may soon see Kenny Pickett under center.”
