Geno Smith and the Las Vegas Raiders dropped to 1-4 on the season, as they were blown out by the Indianapolis Colts, 40-6.
There was nothing positive that Pete Carroll and the team could take out of this game. The defense couldn't get any stops, as the Colts finished 8-of-10 on third downs.
The box score might show that the Colts had only 317 yards, but that is skewed as Smith continued his trend of throwing interceptions.
Through five games, Smith has thrown a league-leading nine interceptions. The next closest is Joe Flacco with six. Interceptions have been an issue throughout Smith's career, as he threw the third most last year with 15.
Now, all of the interceptions aren't on Smith, as the offense as a whole is a disaster. The offensive line has struggled all year, as they have given up 16 sacks on the year, which is tied for 3rd most in the league.
For the second straight game, Ashton Jeanty has started to look more like the guy they thought they got when they drafted him. In Week 4, he rushed for 138 yards. On Sunday, he rushed the ball 14 times for 67 yards. However, he finally showcased some ability in the passing game, as he had another five catches for 42 yards.
Getting Jeanty and the rushing attack is something the Raiders have to do, as Smith needs a running game to be at his best as a quarterback. Throughout his career, when he is able to play out of the play-action game, Smith can be very good. However, opposing defenses haven't been scared of the Raiders rushing attack, and they are able to stop it with their front four.
The other glaring issue is the Raiders just don't have the playmakers on the outside. Tight end Brock Bowers is a star in the league, but he missed the game on Sunday. Without him, Tre Tucker has been the only Raiders wide receiver that has shown up each week.
The Raiders season is quickly looking like it is going to be another long season for the organization. Playing in a division with the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos, those are three of the better teams in the AFC.
Next week's game against the Tennessee Titans is a game the team has to get if the Raiders want to have any chance of turning things around. For that to happen, Smith has to stop turning the ball over, as it is simply too much for this team to overcome.
