Despite a three-game skid, analysts see a prime opportunity for Las Vegas to exploit a depleted Rams roster and snap their losing streak at Allegiant Stadium.
The Las Vegas Raiders and head coach Klint Kubiak had everybody talking after a stunning 3-0 start to the season.
Since then, the Raiders have lost three in a row, although to likely AFC playoff teams in the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills.
Two of those losses came by a field goal, but the Patriots had no issues with a 45-17 blowout win in Foxborough.
Right now, Kirk Cousins is still the starter, although it might only be a matter of time before No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza gets his chance.
Running back Ashton Jeanty has also struggled, rushing for just 313 yards on 98 carries and 1 touchdown, which comes out to an average of just 52.2 yards per game and 3.2 yards per carry.
In Week 7, the Raiders face the Los Angeles Rams in Nevada at Allegiant Stadium, and five NFL.com editors made their predictions for this game. Three picked LA and two picked Las Vegas.
- Jeremy Bergman: Rams win, 24-17
- Brooke Cersosimo: Raiders win, 25-24
- Gennaro Filice: Rams win, 27-24
- Bobby Kownack: Raiders win, 17-14
- Dan Parr: Rams win, 31-27
So, despite the 3-2 lead toward LA, all five of them has this one being in single digits in point differential. Two of them have it being a field goal difference, and one by just one point, so it could be a very close game.
Cersosimo picked the Raiders, and she mentioned the Rams long list of injuries, which includes Kobie Turner being placed on IL and star wide receiver Davante Adams being out anywhere from six-to-10 weeks with an injury.
In the end, she believes this is the right time for the Raiders, and it might be the chance for them to snap their losing skid.
"The Raiders are catching L.A. at an opportune time, and they lean on their kicker to boot them to glory in the final minute," Cersosimo wrote.
The Raiders' 3-0 start was built on wins over the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers, the NFL's last two winless teams, and the New Orleans Saints.
However, the Raiders still managed to put up a fight against some AFC heavyweights, and they nearly defeated the Chiefs before Patrick Mahomes pulled a rabbit out of the hat to lead Kansas City to victory.
Nonetheless, the Raiders have a fighting chance this weekend against the Rams, and they have home-field advantage working in their favor.
