Las Vegas Raiders running back Dylan Laube is starring as a return man, and he also makes fashion statements.
Las Vegas Raiders running back Dylan Laube now has his own “look,” and it’s one of the more entertaining stories of the young season as the Raiders try to find their way back into contention after several down years.
To review: Laube is one of those great “rags to riches” stories about a player whose background indicates that he has no business having an NFL career. The running back was taken in the sixth round last year after playing for five years at the University of New Hampshire, which is hardly a hotbed for NFL talent.
But Laube persevered and made the cut, and now he’s making plays occasionally as a return man for the Raiders. He’s also getting time at running back with Ashton Jeanty struggling with an injury, which isn’t exactly ideal, but Laube is holding his own so far as the Raiders try to revive their slumping running game.
As for the look, it’s about track suits, according to Levi Edwards of Raiders.com. Laube started wearing them at Westhampton Beach High School in New York, as he wore won to a team dinner after making the team as a freshman.
The suits have become something of a staple, and it became his trademark as he piled up 7,197 all-purose yards and 47 total touchdowns with UNH, per Edwards. Laube even sports the garments in the parking lot at Allegiant Stadium, the writer noted, despite the 100-degree heat.
He’s been compared to Tony Soprano with his look, and Laube now has a collection of these things. He lists his favorite as a beige outfit from Louis Vitton, which makes him a very unique NFL fashionista. He’s become something of a connisseur, and his teammates occasionally wear them as well, as it gives Laube a sense of what he calls his “swagger.”
That kind of swagger has long been a feature of the Raiders brand, which they’re looking to recapture right now. The Raiders have been surprisingly feisty in the early going, but they’re coming off a pair of back-to-back losses to the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots, with the last one being especially ugly.
Laube scored his first NFL touchdown against the Patriots on Sunday, and he’s had a couple of big returns as well. He probably won’t be seeing much more time at running back, but so far he’s been a great story that happens to come with a special fashion statement.
