The Las Vegas Raiders nearly traded Maxx Crosby to the Ravens, who did things differently with Cam Jurgens.

There was plenty of fallout after the failed trade for defensive end Maxx Crosby, and it wasn’t just about what became an embarrassing controversy for the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Baltimore Ravens took their share of flak after they backed ouf of the Crosby trade, and it had an impact on the deal they did with the Philadelphia Eagles for center Cam Jurgens, according to a report from Jonathan Jones of The Athletic.

To put it simply, the Ravens didn’t mess around when it came to getting Jurgens’ medicals. They sent a medical team up to Philly to check on his situation, with the reports focing on the back surgery he had in 2025 after the Eagles’ Super Bowl run that year. Jurgens passed his physical, although he won’t play on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons due to concussion symptoms.

The Ravens completely botched the procedural part of this with the Crosby deal, according to the sequence of events Jones laid out. The trade was made and announced before the weekend that preceded the deadline, and they failed to fly Crosby in for his medicals until the following Monday.

That cost Baltimore a travel day, and on Tuesday the Raiders sent Crosby in for imaging. After consulting with doctors, the Ravens decided to back out of the trade, but the reverberations remain ongoing.

Part of Baltimore’s urgency with the Jurgens deal was their current offensive line situation. Per Jones,  Jurgens has a low cap hit the next several years, with the number landing at $13 million over the next three seasons, with a total of $51 million in cash to be paid out over the next four years. That made the deal “pricey” for Ravens GM Eric DeCosta, but it solves a pressing issue during a championship window.

There’s some irony involving the Raiders there as well. The player Jurgens will be replacing is center Tyler Linderbaum, who’s now excelling in Las Vegas after the Raiders broke the bank and reset the market to get their new center.

The Raiders probably have few regrets about the rescinded trade, too, given their 3-1 record. They could have secured a pair of first-round picks for Crosby, but he’s now starring for a winning team after recovering from surgery for a meniscus tear during the offseason.

The Ravens have also taken some hits to their reputation for their reported tendency to do this sort of thing when they make trades. It definitely represents a sea change for both teams, with all sorts of ripple effects still surfacing.
