The Los Angeles Rams brought Aaron Donald in for a "tryout," which points to his return taking a major step.
The Los Angeles Rams have made a huge step in bringing Aaron Donald back into the fold. Per the NFL's transaction wire, Donald was an official tryout for the team.
When players come in for a tryout, it means they are more than likely angling to be signed. Donald coming back for a tryout may just be the major step before he receives a real contract from the Rams.
Donald began his journey to return to the NFL following the announcement that Myles Garrett was sent to Los Angeles in a huge blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns. Initially, Donald indicated that he was content with never playing football again, but his tune changed the moment the Garrett trade occurred.
Donald spoke to insiders, revealing that the Garrett trade lit a fire within him to attempt a return.
Following the news that the defensive end was considering a return, Donald was spotted at the Rams' training facility engaging in drills.
After more weeks of speculation, Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed that Donald was working his way back into football shape. The coach did state that it would take some time, and further updates would not happen until the team returned to their facility in Woodland Hills.
With training camp rolling on and Los Angeles getting closer to returning to Woodland Hills, it appears that Donald is gearing up for an official return.
What will be interesting is how the Rams handle his contract.
Donald was due $30 million when he chose to step away from football, and it would be believed he may want to collect on that money. Then again, he might also agree to a new deal considering how much he plans to play in 2026.
McVay did indicate that Donald would not come back unless it was at 100 percent, but many things can certainly be true at once.
The Rams could very well bring Donald back on a limited snap count or some variation of a playstyle that would not require him to be on the field in the same manner he was before he stepped away from the game.
Either way, Donald's return appears to be nearly guaranteed and the fact that he came in for an official workout only points to the Rams going through the proper channels to bring him back to play in 2026 alongside Garrett.
