Former Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Jared Verse had one final message for the team following the blockbuster trade to the Cleveland Browns.
After Verse found out that he was heading to Cleveland in exchange for All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett, he told some of his now former teammates to beat the Seattle Seahawks.
"And I told them the most important thing, 'Make sure' – and I'm not going to cuss – ‘Make sure you beat the Seahawks. That’s all I care about,'" Verse said.
The 25-year-old also spoke about what had transpired in the moments leading up to him finding out about the trade.
"When he gave me that news, my mindset wasn’t, 'Oh my god, I’ve got to leave. I’ve got to pack up my house. I’ve got to go across the country.' My mindset was, 'I’ve got to leave my teammates, I’ve got to leave my brothers behind, because I don’t want to leave my brothers,'" he said. "So if I'm going to, I want to address them. I don’t want them to find out from ESPN or from this news site or that news site. I want them to hear it from me."
Although the Rams are getting a future Hall of Famer in Garrett, it was not easy to let go of Verse.
The Rams were hesitant to give up Verse in the trade, but ultimately, they couldn’t pass up on the chance to acquire Garrett. Verse has played a vital role for the Rams in his first two seasons of his career, and has grown a hatred towards the Seahawks.
Los Angeles was arguably one win away from representing the NFC in the Super Bowl this past season. However, it was the Seahawks who came out victorious and ultimately were the last team standing for the 2025 season.
On top of that, Seattle beat out the Rams for the top spot in the NFC West. This season, the Rams and Seahawks are poised for yet another intense and thrilling battle for the division and possibly for the Super Bowl title.
The Rams and Seahawks sit at the top with the best Super Bowl title odds, and the addition of Garrett could tip the scales towards Los Angeles. However, there is no telling how the defense will perform without Verse in the lineup.
Garrett is arguably the best defender and pass rusher in the NFL, but it all depends on how he fits into the Chris Shula defensive scheme and with his fellow teammates.
