Future Hall of Fame defensive end J.J. Watt believes that the Los Angeles Rams are ready to dominate after their blockbuster trade for Myles Garrett.

The Los Angeles Rams have won the offseason in dominant fashion. After falling short of a Super Bowl title in 2025, the team upgraded its roster in a significant way.

One such upgrade was the blockbuster trade for All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett, which has certainly gotten everyone’s attention, including future Hall of Famer J.J. Watt.

Watt is arguably the best defender of this generation, so he knows a thing or two about what an elite defense looks like. In his view of the Rams, Watt believes they have the personnel to field exactly that, especially after the addition of Garrett.

In a recent appearance on ESPN’s Pat McAfee show, Watt praised the Rams' defense with the addition of Garrett, calling them a “scary football team.”

"This is unbelievable," Watt said. "It's a team who was already, I believe, favored to win the Super Bowl, or at minimum compete for it, and then you add one of the best defensive players in the history of the game. It's incredible, and what they're doing out there with their whole mentality around never satisfied and willing to give up picks for anything, don't care about the picks at all, you have to respect it. You have to appreciate it, and they're going all in all the time, and it's going to be scary, because he [Garrett] has always been playing from behind."

Watt continued by stating that Garrett has been accustomed to playing from behind in his time with the Cleveland Browns. That is unlikely to be the case in his time in Los Angeles with the loaded roster behind him.

"It's going to be a sight to see," Watt said. "That defense is already good, and then you add one of the best players in the league, and you have the MVP on offense, and everything they have with Sean McVay. Like, it's a scary, scary team."

Garrett is projected to take the Rams' defense to another level.

Last season, the Rams' defense was a highly effective unit in the first half of the season, but struggled consistently in the back half. They finished 17th overall in total defense, with their secondary, specifically their cornerbacks, being a unit that was below average.

The Rams' run defense, especially on early downs, was a bright spot. They ranked second in the NFL on first-down success rate allowed, which consistently put opposing offenses behind schedule and set the tone for the drive. The addition of Garrett should only strengthen that unit, and everything else will flow throughout the rest of the position groups.

Los Angeles is loaded with talent on the defensive end alone. The stars like Trent McDuffie, Garrett, Kobie Turner, Kam Kurl, and Quentin Lake, to name a few, are ready to wreak havoc on opposing offenses.

That’s without mentioning their offensive unit that is poised for yet another big season.
