The Los Angeles Rams would make perfect sense as a trade destination for wide receiver Josh Downs.
The Los Angeles Rams have dealt with more than their fair share of injuries already this season. One of the big injuries was suffered by star wide receiver Davante Adams.
At this point in time, no one knows exactly how long Adams will miss due to his hamstring injury. There has been some hope that he could return following the Rams' Week 11 bye.
Regardless of when he gets back on the field, Los Angeles could consider targeting a wide receiver trade before the upcoming November 10 NFL trade deadline.
One name that would make perfect sense is Indianapolis Colts wideout Josh Downs. He has reportedly requested a trade from the Colts amid the ongoing fire sale. Indianapolis has already moved star offensive lineman Quenton Nelson and star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.
Not only have the Colts traded both of those players, they sent them to NFC West rivals. Nelson was dealt to the Seattle Seahawks, while Buckner ended up with the San Francisco 49ers.
All of that being said, let's take a look at what Downs would bring to Los Angeles and why the Rams would be an ideal fit for him.
First and foremost, Downs has grown frustrated with the losing ways in Indianapolis. Being traded to a team like Los Angeles would give him a franchise focused solely on winning now.
So far this season with the Colts, Downs has caught 26 passes for 307 yards, but has not found the end zone. Last year, he racked up 58 receptions for 566 yards and four scores.
Throughout his entire 54-game NFL career, Downs has totaled 224 receptions for 2,447 yards and 11 touchdowns.
At 25 years old, Downs would bring excellent slot production to the Rams' offense. He would also be an addition both for this season and the future. Assuming Los Angeles worked out a contract extension with him, the move could pay dividends for years to come.
Looking further into the future, Adams is playing in the final year of his contract with the Rams. Should he leave town in free agency after the 2026 season concludes, Downs would then become the No. 2 wideout for Matthew Stafford.
His overall track record of production should make him a top target for Los Angeles if the front office chooses to pursue a wide receiver trade. Very rarely do 25-year-old wide receivers with Downs' style of skill-set come available.
Expect to hear plenty of rumors attached to the Rams as the deadline approaches. Downs would be a perfect fit to both fix an immediate need and a long-term need at the same time.
