Los Angeles Rams defensive end Myles Garrett has offered his thoughts on being impressed with the team, who have expressed being impressed by the defender as well.
It was always going to be a surprise when Myles Garrett finally took the field as a member of the Los Angeles Rams, and that has now happened. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is engaged in training camp and has offered his thoughts on the team he is playing with now.
"It's been a joy. I love the culture that, you know, they already have in place and, you know, many of the different players and coaches that I've, you know, been able to start building relationships with. It's been a real joy and a pleasure, and I just want to help continue to build them," Garrett said.
Many Los Angeles players spoke about their shock when it was announced that Garrett was traded for, but from when the trade occurred to now, they hadn't shared the field.
With training camp starting up, many Rams players have spoken up about the sheer energy that Garrett plays with.
Defensive coordinator Chris Shula stated that the defender's arrival "definitely" lived up to the excitement.
"We've been looking forward to this day for a long time, and it definitely lived up to it," Shula said on Monday.
Safety Quentin Lake spoke about his presence and how he carries himself in meeting rooms.
"His presence or aura in general, like he's a workhorse, you know taking down notes in the meeting room ... but even more so than that, what he does to take care of his body. You know, your body is your resume, but your best ability is availability. So what he does to take care of his body, the attention to detail that he takes, you know, to take care of his body, Lake said.
Also fellow addition Trent McDuffie also spoke about the chip that Garrett may have on his shoulder following his trade.
"I'm just excited to get him out here and get him loose and get him going cuz I know he has a little chip on his shoulder and he's excited about being here. So, I think that just fires everybody else up," McDuffie said.
Garrett also indicated that he is creating an "open dialogue" with players like Byron Young so they can learn from one another.
The expectations for the Rams are to make it all the way to the Super Bowl, but those expectations have also been shot down by head coach Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford.
Even with such a strong defender on the team, things can go wrong very quickly. It is very difficult for teams to win game in the regular season and even harder during the playoffs.
On paper, Los Angeles has a strong chance to make a deep playoff run, but that won't amount to anything unless the work is put in. The good news is the Rams now arguably have the best defender in the league on their team.
Garrett's ability to win in one-on-one matchups is well-known, and his having to be double-teamed will open even more opportunities for the rest of the young and dynamic defense. However, Shula will still have to put every player in the best possible position to succeed.
Garrett may or may not match his 23 sack count in 2026, but he might also be used in different situations that may lead to more opportunities for the rest of the defense. One thing is for sure, he has never played on a team that is set up in the manner that the Rams are.
